EUGENE — Oregon has two of the best players in the country in a role it called upon very little last season: punter.

Ross James is a two-year returning starter, who was joined earlier this summer by Boise State transfer James Ferguson-Reynolds , an All-American in 2023. Both seniors, James and Ferguson-Reynolds are competing for a job that the No. 7 Ducks utilized just 3.3 time per game last season, tied for 109th nationally.

“He’s one of the best punters that we’ve had come in here and he was the best transfer punter in the portal,” James said. “Having him come in is going to push me and I’m going to push him.”
