A father tragically died just over a week after being bitten by what his family believe was a "venomous spider". Mark Anthony Kirby died on Saturday, August 2, aged 38.

His ex-partner of 16 years and mother to his children, Kayleigh Gill, said that Mark had been bitten by one of his pet spiders which he had bought online a few weeks earlier.

Days later, Mark travelled to Scotland with Kayleigh, her partner and sister for a night away. Despite complaining of feeling unwell, Kayleigh said he was still "playing pranks" during their meal at Toby Carvery before they returned home on July 26.

Throughout the following week, Mark experienced flu-like symptoms such as fluctuating body temperature and aching limbs.
