NORTH CHARLESTON — In an effort to mitigate the parking shortage on the peninsula, the Medical University of South Carolina leased a parking lot on Rivers Avenue to shuttle students and employees to the downtown Charleston hospital. But those who work and go to school there expressed concerns of shuttle reliability and unpredictable traffic along the seven-mile route to campus.
The parking lot at the site of the former Charleston Naval Hospital will provide 725 spaces, enough to address the current parking shortage at the downtown campus, said Stewart Mixon, MUSC’s chief operations officer. The lot is MUSC’s first official park-and-ride location.
