An off-road bike rider is in hospital with serious injuries after 'making off' from police before crashing.

The smash happened close to Hyde Road in Gorton , east Manchester, yesterday evening (Sunday, August 17).

A motorcyclist 'made off from an officer when they tried to stop it', Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Around five minutes later, the bike was involved in a collision on Queens Avenue, just off Hyde Road.

The rider was 'knocked off' the off-road bike, the force said.

Emergency services attended the scene, near Belle Vue, at around 7pm.

Multiple police cars and an ambulance were in attendance.
