'New evidence' is due to be submitted as killer nurse Lucy Letby continues to plead her innocence.

Laywer Mark McDonald said Letby was a 'broken person' when he met her but claims she now has 'new hope'.

Her parents contacted high-profile barrister Mr McDonald almost a year ago and asked he take over from her previous lawyer so she could be freed from jail.

Mr McDonald met the killer nurse the following week and has spent the past year working to boost public criticism of her convictions.

He is now planning to submit 'new evidence' to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which investigates potential miscarriages of justice.
