HOUSTON (KIAH) — Today, Houston Mayor John Whitmire unveiled nine recycling trucks with a brand new look. Houston residents may notice that the new fleet of trucks are not sporting the typical blue color we've come to know.
According to the mayor, the funding for the new fleet came from newly passed recovery funding and the city saved $3,000 for each new truck that went unpainted.
"Ladies and gentlemen, its about getting job done," Whitmire explained.
Whitmire along with Solid Waste Management Department Director, Larius Hassen, previewed the fleet this morning. The replacements will help improve curbside collections, reduce costs, and provide safer operations for crews.
