JAMES CITY — Over the past year, a James City County man has headed up a hereditary patriotic organization called the General Society of the Sons of the Revolution.
“It was surreal feeling when I was elected president general last year at our triennial conference in Pennsylvania,” Mark M. Jakobowski said in a recent interview. “I joined the Virginia society in 2011, and I would have thought you were nuts if you had told me I would end up president general.”
Jakobowski is the first president general from Virginia in more than 100 years. At the same time, he also serves as president of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the Revolution. Over the past 10 months, he has received a host of invitations from various other patriotic organizations to appear on programs or to make speeches.
