It was a gangland feud characterised by extreme violence - most notoriously the fatal shooting of Salford ‘Mr Big’ Paul Massey. And at its height it was so intractable GMP planned to recruit 'paramilitary mediators' from Northern Ireland in an attempt to broker a peace.

But a decade on from Massey’s shocking murder, the bad blood between the alleged bosses of the two warring gangs that brought mayhem and murder to the streets of Salford and beyond remains. The rivalry between Stephen Britton and Michael 'Cazza' Carroll wasn't just about business and 'turf', though. It was personal.
