DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Earlier this summer, a Hoosier set the state record for the largest mooneye catch, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced Monday.
On June 5, Tyler Baumann caught a 12-inch-long, 9-ounce mooneye on the East Fork of the Whitewater River. The previous record was 5.8 ounces set in 2019 on the Ohio River in Clark County, according to the DNR. State record fish are determined by weight rather than length.
The Indianapolis man was fishing in a kayak and used a nightcrawler under a bobber to catch the fish.
