The pride is back at Evans High School, and there are many ways to tell.

Sometimes it’s the little things.

“A janitor came to me the other day and said, ‘Hey man, I just want to say thank you, that locker room is spic and span’,” Evans football coach Karlos Odum said.

Players keeping a clean locker room is a stepping stone to success on the field, and Odum and the Trojans hope they are on their way to the ways of yesteryear — when Evans football (and basketball) were the pride of Pine Hills.

Bill Gierke remembers the good old days. So does Kenard Lang.

They were coach and player at Evans in 1991, when the Trojans tied Miami Southridge for the Class 5A state championship and the community just west of Orlando city limits was bonkers for their football team.
