INDIANAPOLIS — Oreo Jones was living in Indianapolis' Fountain Square neighborhood surrounded by talented musicians on his block, with himself being one of them, when he had a light bulb moment.
What if he started a music festival?
Thus, Chreece was born.
Now, Chreece has transformed from an idea to one of Indianapolis' biggest events and a community staple that thousands of people flock to every year.
This year, Chreece is celebrating 10 years! The fest will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 in Fountain Square from noon until 11 p.m.
The streets will shut down to cars and open up to a block party celebrating hip-hop and rap music.
Chreece features around 70 artists from Indiana and beyond, with this year's headliners being Smino , Audrey Nuna , MAVI and Jones' hip-hop trio, 81355 .
