BOSTON —
The Boston Red Sox and first baseman Nathaniel Lowe are finalizing a deal, according to multiple reports, including from MLB.com and ESPN .
Lowe, 30, will help fill the team's need at first base after Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury in early May.
After Casas' injury, the team asked longtime third baseman Rafael Devers to play first base, but he declined . He had already moved from third base to designated hitter after the team signed third baseman Alex Bregman. Devers' refusal to play first eventually led the team to trade him to the San Francisco Giants in June .
