HAMMONTON — The Town Council plans to hold a public hearing Aug. 25 at Town Hall to determine whether to spend more than $2.2 million on recreation improvements, including constructing a new, disability-inclusive playground in Hammonton Lake Park.

State grants would fund $1.23 million of the total cost. The town would authorize debt of $997,500 to cover the rest.

"If approved, this Jake's Law playground will fill this gap in the town's recreation inventory," said Adam Monacelli, the town's parks and recreation director, who has a 20-year-old son, Alec, with special needs.

Jake's Law, passed in 2018, encourages New Jersey counties to build inclusive playgrounds that are designed with standards that generally exceed those required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
