A 26-year-old Kitchener man is facing impaired driving charges after being stopped for speeding in Guelph.
Guelph police said the incident occurred Sunday, just before 1 a.m., when a car was clocked travelling at 82 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Wellington Street West.
The car was pulled over, police said, and the officer noted a strong odour of freshly applied cologne while speaking to the driver, who had “glossy, bloodshot eyes.”
After failing a roadside breath test, police said, the man was arrested and taken to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
Besides impaired driving charges, the man was also charged with speeding, driving without insurance and being a novice driver with alcohol in his system.
