A 36-year-old Guelph man has been charged in connection with two fires in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Wellington County OPP said on Friday, at approximately 8:30 a.m., fire services responded to a fire at a vacant property on Mill Road in Guelph-Eramosa Township. While on the scene, police were alerted to a grass fire nearby.

With help from the public, a man was identified and arrested near the scene.

Both fires were quickly extinguished with minimal damage, police said, and there were no reported injuries.

The man was charged with arson — damage to property, and mischief — destroys or damages property.

He was held for a bail hearing Friday and remanded into custody.
