Four people have died, including two children, after a fire ripped through a home in Connecticut.

Fire crews responded to the scene at Shultas Place in Hartford around 2:30 a.m. local time on Monday, Aug. 18, according to NBC affiliate WVIT and the Hartford Courant .

Hartford Fire Chief Rodney Barco said firefighters tried to use a ladder to enter the home but were driven out by the heavy flames, the Courant and the Stamford Advocate reported.
