Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene of a huge waste fire in Cambridgeshire for the rest of the day. Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue were called to a fire on St Ives Road, Somersham , just before 7am today (Monday, August 18).
Multiple crews were called to the blaze. On arrival, firefighters found around 200 tonnes of waste on fire at Envar Composting, a waste recycling centre.
A fire spokesperson said: “At 6.54am on Monday (18) crews were called to a fire on St Ives Road in Somersham. Crews from Ramsey, Chatteris and Manea, including the water carrier, along with the command unit from Huntingdon and crews from Newmarket in Suffolk , attended the incident.
“Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving around 200 tonnes of waste at a recycling centre.” As of 2pm,
