NEW HOPE, Minn. — A state lawmaker from New Hope is throwing his hat in the ring in a bid to become Hennepin County's top prosecutor.

Rep. Cedrick Frazier (DFL - New Hope) announced Monday in a video that he is running to become the leader of the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

Current Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced earlier this month that she will not seek reelection.

According to his announcement, Frazier grew up in Chicago and moved to Minnesota to attend college.

Frazier began his legal career as a public defender for Hennepin County before becoming the Director of Equity and Diversity for the Minneapolis Public School District.
