NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) - Students returned to classes on Monday, with staff and students looking forward to another great school year.

The district is starting the year with a new superintendent. Garrett Schmidt. He started his first day as a Dakota Valley Panther.

Schmidt taught elementary and middle school in South Dakota and Minnesota before moving into administration.

He spent Monday, Aug. 18, visiting as many classes and meeting students as he could between the different grade buildings.

“I wish there were three or four of me so we could present the whole day in every building, but I did the best I could to greet as many students as I could, greet as many parents, and be there to support our building administrators and our staff,” said Schmidt.
