ATLANTA — The Atlanta community rallied behind the family of a fallen DeKalb County Police officer who was killed in the line of duty during an attack on the Centers for Disease Control last week.

More than 1,200 runners ran alongside Atlanta Police officers, firefighters, and other community members for the Atlanta's Finest 5K in honor of Officer David Rose on Saturday.

The participation in the race led to more than $40,000 being donated to the children and the officer's wife, according to a post from the Atlanta Track Club.

All of those registration fees went to an education fund for his children.

"Even though he was with DeKalb County, we are still all brothers and sisters in blue," said an Atlanta Police recruit.
