DRAYTON, ND – If a tournament angler could script a perfect finish to a catfish competition, it would be tough to top what husband-and-wife anglers Al and Lisa Erickson and their son, Zach Erickson, did Friday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 16.

The Ericksons, of Grand Forks, weighed in seven catfish over two days for a whopping 92.72 pounds to win the top prize of $10,000 in the Drayton Catfish Capital Challenge fishing tournament on the Red River in Drayton.

They also landed another $1,000 for catching the big fish both days, a 23.69-pound catfish on Day 1 and a 26.75-pound catfish on Day 2.

Teams could weigh in four catfish daily – two “slot fish” up to 24 inches long, and two big fish over 24 inches – and have multiple anglers in the boat, with a limit of four lines.
