ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested a 22-year-old Rockford felon suspected in a shooting on Saturday.

According to the Rockford Police Department, officers with the Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (SCOPE) team spotted a stolen vehicle in the 4400 block of 11th Street that was involved in an earlier shooting in the 900 block of Cunnigham.

Police said the officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver sped away. The car was followed until it stopped, and the driver, later identified as Jason Wilson, got out and tried to run. He was apprehended and taken into custody, authorities said.

Police added that a loaded handgun was recovered in the incident.
