Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prince and Princess of Wales, are preparing to relocate to a new home later this year. The family, which includes their three children, will move to Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom property located in Windsor Great Park. This transition has prompted two nearby families to vacate their homes to ensure privacy for the royal family.
Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner noted that the neighbors were surprised by the request to leave. He stated, "They were told to move out. I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move. They were not expecting it." Although no formal eviction notices were issued, the families have relocated to similar or better accommodations within the 4,800-acre Great Park, remaining on Crown Estate properties.
Richard Fitzwilliams, another royal expert, explained that the move was necessary for security reasons. He emphasized that the Prince and Princess of Wales require protection from the intense scrutiny of the media. "The Prince and Princess of Wales need shelter from the enormous pressures of royal life with a media circus watching everything they do," Fitzwilliams said.
The tenants previously lived in cottages converted from stables on the estate, which are rented out by the Crown Estate. Reports indicate that new shrubs and a metal fence with black mesh privacy screens have been installed around Forest Lodge in anticipation of the royal family's arrival.
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace confirmed that the Wales family will move into the new home later this year. It is understood that William and Kate are financing the renovations themselves. William, who is the heir to the British throne, receives approximately $30 million annually from the Duchy of Cornwall Estate.
Some observers have commented on the modesty of the new residence. Turner remarked, "Some royal skeptics are saying that it is not grand enough for a future king. William and Kate may already be setting the precedent for the future monarch living a much humbler existence."
The family currently resides in Adelaide Cottage, which they moved into in 2022. Their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, attend Lambrook School, located nearby. The move to Forest Lodge is seen as a fresh start for the family, especially after a challenging period marked by health issues. In January, Kate announced that her cancer was in remission, while King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Turner highlighted the benefits of the new location for Kate, stating, "For Kate, there is a tennis court for the game she loves. She can also have relaxing walks in nearby woodlands, which she has stated helps her on her journey after cancer treatment."
The Wales family is expected to remain in their new home even after William ascends to the throne.
