State officials have confirmed a human case of West Nile virus in an Oakland County resident, the first one this year.

So far in 2025, two cases have been reported statewide. Earlier this month, a Livingston County resident was diagnosed.

The Oakland County resident who has the virus did not report any recent travel, according to a release from the county Health Division. No further information is available about the patient because of health privacy laws.

The virus is spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. Most people with the virus have no symptoms or experience a mild illness such as fever, headache and body aches.
