TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — The family of a Toombs County High School student has received the support of the community, raising nearly $15,000 to support the teen who was detained by ICE.
The money was raised through a GoFundMe as the family seeks answers and legal help.
"Either you're perfect or you're going to be separated from your family,” said Eduardo Delgado, civic and advocacy coordinator for Migrant Equity Southeast.
Roberto Itzep-Caba was stopped by police on his way to school for rolling through a stop sign. Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker said because Caba admitted he didn't have a license; they had to bring him in for fingerprints.
"Driving while unlicensed is treated the same, basically, as driving on a suspended driver's license,” said Walker.
