High school sports continue to be a big hit.
For the third consecutive year, participation has increased across the United States, raising the total number of student-athletes to a national-record 8,260,891 participants, according to the National Federation of High School Athletics.
According to data released by the NFHS, the total number of athletes involved in the 2024-25 scholastic year includes 4,723, 907 boys and 3,536,984 girls – both also records. The total is up nearly 200,000 from the previous year.
Since a decline before the pandemic, the number of athletes participating has risen over 640,000 in the last three years.
