MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The trial for Hernandez Govan has begun, with the first day leading with opening statements and some witnesses on the stand.

Prosecutors began opening statements with a timeline of Young Dolph’s death and saying that one of the few things people can control is their choices.

The defense’s opening statement looked to take the spotlight off of Govan and onto the tensions between Dolph and the record label of Yo Gotti of CMG.

The state’s first witness was Erica Thornton, Young Dolph’s sister.

Cornelius Smith, who admitted being one of two shooters in Dolph’s murder, also testified.

During Justin Johnson’s trial, Smith testified that Govan told him about a $100,000 hit on Young Dolph put out by Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, the now deceased brother of Memphis rapper Y
