SAN JOSE — A man’s body was found inside a recreational vehicle as the city was preparing to tow it away as part of a mass clearing of a Columbus Park encampment Monday morning, according to San Jose police.
The discovery was made just after 9:20 a.m. at the park off West Taylor Street that had become the site of the city’s largest homeless encampment, with upward of 300 residents by the city’s estimate.
City workers and police were in the process of getting an RV towed from the site “when they located an obviously deceased adult male inside,” police said. Police said the officers did not see any signs of foul play, and it was not immediately clear how and when the man died.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office was summoned to the scene, and will conduct the process
