The city of Madison Heights will provide each of its households with trash and recycling carts for use in curbside pickup that starts Oct. 6.
The more than $1 million transition is being nearly half-funded by Michigan EGLE and a national recycling nonprofit.
The city of Madison Heights, with the help of the state of Michigan and a recycling nonprofit, will roll out curbside trash and recycling pickup for residents in October − a move projected to increase the amount of materials recycled in the city by 50%.
The program is scheduled to begin on Oct. 6. Each of the city's more than 10,300 households will receive one 96-gallon trash cart along with one 64-gallon recycling cart, with all carts set for delivery by Sept. 1. The city is spending $1.1 million to purchase the carts from Cascade
