A Texas inmate was mistakenly released from a Houston jail on Sunday morning, police say.

Troy Dugas, 36, was mistakenly released from the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas at 4:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, Aug. 17, according to a Harris County Sheriff's Office news release. Dugas was previously sentenced to five years in state prison for family violence assault and two years for evading arrest. He had been at the Harris County Jail since Aug. 14 on additional charges that were dismissed.

It is believed jail staff did not properly document Dugas' prison sentence in his file, resulting in his release, according to the news release. A thorough investigation will be conducted at the jail.

Anyone with information about Dugas' whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately.
