Phillies ace Zack Wheeler underwent a successful thrombolysis procedure to remove a blood clot in his right upper extremity on Monday morning, the Phillies announced. The right-hander had been placed on the injured list on Saturday due to the blood clot.

The Phillies said that any further treatment and Wheeler's timeline for a recovery are to be determined. The thrombolysis procedure was performed by Dr. Paul DiMuzio at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Wheeler is in the midst of another stellar season for the Phillies, going 10-5 with a 2.71 ERA in 24 starts over 149 2/3 innings with 195 strikeouts.
