GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — A former University of North Dakota basketball player died Saturday evening after drowning.
It happened at the Blackridge Reservoir in Utah. Deng Mayar, 22, was reported struggling in the water.
His body was later recovered.
Mayar played as a forward with the Fighting Hawks for two seasons and was about to play for the University of Nebraska at Omaha in the upcoming season.
He graduated from UND in April.
His family has set up a GoFundMe page. They say he was “an extraordinary son, brother, friend, classmate and teammate. Many of you knew him as Lieutenant Deng, but to us, he was the heart of our family.”
