What do Caitlin Clark, Harry Potter, and Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” have in common? (Cue the music from “Final Jeopardy.) Give up?

The answer: All have been immortalized − briefly, anyway − with a butter statue at the Iowa State Fair.

That’s right, it’s Iowa State Fair time, once again. That means thrill rides, livestock judging, deep-fried foods-on-a-stick, and, of course, the Butter Cow.

According to the Iowa State Fair’s website , the first butter cow was sculpted in 1911. Since then, five “dairy artists” – I am going to trademark that term – have taken a crack at crafting a “Butter Bossie” (another trademarked term).
