A man was arrested early Monday, hours after allegedly stabbing to death an acquaintance inside a Smyrna apartment, according to police.

Javi Aniel Silva Maldonado entered a Georgian Oaks apartment unit on Atlanta Road shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, a witness told investigators.

“A witness stated that he was sitting in the kitchen when said accused walked into the residence, walked into the kitchen and grabbed a large kitchen knife, then walked into the living room and stabbed (the victim) in the chest several times,” Maldonado’s arrest warrant states.

The injured man, whose name was not released pending notification of family members, died during surgery at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, police said.
