Jasveen Sangha, known as the "Ketamine Queen," has agreed to plead guilty to charges related to the overdose death of actor Matthew Perry. This decision makes her the fifth and final defendant to reach a plea agreement with federal prosecutors in this case. Sangha's plea comes as she seeks to avoid a trial that was scheduled for September.
Sangha, 42, will plead guilty to five federal charges, including one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises and three counts of distributing ketamine. She also faces a charge of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury. According to prosecutors, Sangha admitted to selling four vials of ketamine to Cody McLaury, who died from an overdose in 2019. McLaury had no connection to Perry.
Prosecutors characterized Sangha as a significant drug dealer, frequently referred to as the "Ketamine Queen" in court documents and press releases. Her plea agreement will lead to the dismissal of three additional counts related to ketamine distribution and one count of methamphetamine distribution unrelated to Perry's case. Sangha could face up to 45 years in prison when she is sentenced at a future hearing.
Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. The medical examiner determined that ketamine, a drug commonly used as a surgical anesthetic, was the primary cause of death. Perry, 54, had been using ketamine as an off-label treatment for depression, a practice that has gained popularity in recent years. He had sought more of the drug than his doctor was willing to prescribe.
In the weeks leading up to his death, Perry began obtaining ketamine from Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who also pleaded guilty to charges related to the case. Sangha became involved about two weeks before Perry's death. Perry and his assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, found Sangha through Erik Fleming, a friend of Perry's. Court documents reveal that Fleming described Sangha's ketamine as "unmarked but it's amazing" and noted that she only dealt with high-profile clients.
In the days before his death, Perry purchased 25 vials of ketamine from Sangha for $6,000 in cash. This purchase included the doses that ultimately led to his death. On the day Perry died, Sangha reportedly suggested to Fleming that they delete their messages to each other.
Sangha's home in North Hollywood was raided by Drug Enforcement Administration agents in March 2024, uncovering significant quantities of methamphetamines and ketamine. She was indicted in June, arrested in August, and has been in custody since. None of the defendants in this case have been sentenced yet.
Perry's struggles with addiction were well-documented throughout his career, particularly during his time on the hit television series "Friends," where he played Chandler Bing alongside co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and others.
