Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield and other Democratic attorneys general are suing the Trump administration over its attempt to condition federal funding for the victims of crimes on states’ cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
In a lawsuit filed on Aug. 18 in Rhode Island, the attorneys general called the move a brazen attempt by the Justice Department to “strong-arm” states into supporting President Donald Trump ’s immigration policies.
“This is yet another attempt to place unlawful conditions on federal funds coming into Oregon to advance the President’s unpopular agenda, this time at the expense of crime victims and survivors,” Rayfield said in a statement.
