PINEVILLE, La. (KNOE) - Louisiana has become the fifth state to send National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., under President Donald Trump’s order to federalize policing in the nation’s capital.

The Louisiana National Guard announced it is deploying about 135 military police who began arriving in D.C. Aug. 16.

Louisiana’s deployment follows announcements from West Virginia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Ohio, all of which are sending troops to augment a federal operation launched after Trump declared a “crime emergency” in Washington, D.C.
