La. Public Service Commission recommends people in 318 area code region prepare for 10

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - If you live in the 318 area code region, you will have to make phone calls a little different starting next week.

With new telephone numbers in high demand, the Louisiana Public Service Commission approved the addition of a new 457 area code to the existing 318 area code region.

This process is known as an area code overlay.

The overlay does not require customers to change their existing area code but will require dialing the area code and the 7-digit telephone number to complete local calls.
