A group of Akron-area pastors blames city leaders for failing to hold police accountable for the use of deadly force.
Clergy gathered for a press conference Aug. 18 at True Covenant Church said the fatal police shooting of Michael Jones on Aug. 17, 2024, and the grand jury review of it followed an all-too familiar pattern.
Just ahead of the anniversary of Jones' death, a Summit County grand jury on Aug. 13 declined to indict an Akron police officer who fatally shot Jones during an investigation into a stolen U-Haul truck.
The no-bill means no criminal charges will be filed against the two officers involved in the incident. The case was presented to a grand jury after an investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The Akron Police Department will now review the case
