SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend community had a violent weekend with multiple shootings across the city as well as a death investigation.

Children were among the victims in two of the shootings, which is news no one wants to hear.

Dr. Joseph D’Haenens joined us on WNDU 16 News Now at 4. He works as an emergency medical physician at Memorial Hospital and specializes in trauma response.

We asked him what it’s like to treat patients who are children in the emergency room.

“Yeah, this weekend was especially bad, over the course of the last several years we’ve seen more and more gun violence and children that are involved.
