FARGO — A North Dakota company has secured $7.5 million from the Department of Defense after signing a contract Monday, Aug. 18.

Elinor Coatings of Fargo, which specializes in anti-corrosion and surface protection, gave U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D, and key stakeholders a tour of its facility, including a new lab dedicated to its latest project, the Aurora Center for Extreme Weather Materials.

The Aurora Center tests how well materials withstand freezing temperatures, extreme heat, UV rays and water. Those materials will then be used for aircraft, drones and military equipment.

Hoeven said the Department of Defense currently spends $20 billion a year on maintenance and its own research into anti-corrosion materials.
