ST. PETERS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Preparations for the first day of school at Henderson Elementary in the Francis Howell School District came down to the final hours, but the building opened its doors Monday morning as planned.
The St. Peters building underwent major renovations over the summer, including construction of a new gymnasium, cafeteria upgrades, and new hallway lighting. Crews were still on site as students returned, with some laying bricks and finishing projects while classes were underway.
Superintendent Mark Delaney said weather delays pushed construction behind schedule.
“Due to some snow days that we had to tack onto last year, it delayed us to our start. And so we’re hitting that homeward stretch here,” he said.
