COOS COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) - The driver of a truck that crashed head-on into a bus in April, killing two members of the Umpqua College softball team , pleaded guilty to multiple charges on Monday.

Johnathan James Dowdy pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree manslaughter, DUII, multiple counts of assault, and driving with a suspended license in a Coos County courtroom.

The deadly crash occurred April 18 on Highway 42, as the team was driving back to campus in Roseburg from a doubleheader at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay.

The crash killed 19-year-old freshman Kiley Nevaeh Jones and 46-year-old coach Jami Lea Strinz - who was driving the team bus.

The team was in their inaugural season. They suspended the rest of the 2025 season following the crash.
