COLUMBIA COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) - A man was sentenced to at least 7.5 years in prison on Monday for hitting a state trooper with his car while fleeing police in 2021.
57-year-old John Thralls originally pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of first-degree assault in March, before attempting to withdraw the plea in April after learning he faced a full 19 years behind bars.
While a judge rejected the motion to withdraw the plea in June, Thralls’ sentence Monday came with the stipulation that 11.5 years of the prison term could be considered for alternative programs such as work release.
The charges stem from an incident in November 2021 that began in Cowlitz County, Wash.
