HARTFORD, Conn. —
Nearly two years after a Hartford police detective died in the line of duty , the city's police department is looking to dedicate a street in his honor.
They are looking to rename High Street, the road where the city’s Public Safety Complex is located, to "Bobby Garten Way," in honor of Hartford Police Officer Robert "Bobby" Garten.
On Aug. 7, the Hartford Police Department created a petition on change.org in support of the effort to rename High Street. Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said he was more than on board when talks first began to honor Garten in this way.
"A number of police officers have asked us about this,” Arulampalam said. “It is a legacy that we want to honor in this city and it’s something that we want to help support.”
