CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Scientists recently discovered that by planting milkweed, it will decrease the spotted lanternfly population by 60-80% in that area in just 24 hours. Milkweed isn't just helpful when it comes to getting rid of the common, invasive pest, but also supporting the native pollinators.

"Milkweed is a host plant for the monarch butterfly, but it does supply nectar for other pollinators and pollen for bees," said Bridget Curran, the landscape manager at the Botanical Garden of the Piedmont.
