INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - A series of internal emails obtained by KCTV5 paints a clearer picture of what led up to the resignation of Independence Police Chief Adam Dustman.

The City of Independence announced his resignation officially on Friday after a three-month leave of absence.

The emails directly from Dustman, obtained by KCTV Investigative Reporter Samantha Boring through a Freedom of Information Act request, describe a difficult personal time.

KCTV5 last talked to Dustman in May, when he returned from Washington, DC, to see fallen Independence Police Officer Cody Allen’s name added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Allen, 35, was shot and killed last year after responding to a home where civil process server Drexel Mack was shot and killed.
