CARMICHAEL, Calif. —

A Sacramento County mother was detained after stabbing her 10-year-old child and the child's father, according to the sheriff's office.

Around 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to the stabbing at a residence on Angelina Avenue in Carmichael.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said a woman tried to stab her child, possibly with a machete, while they were in the shower.

Officials said the child had some wounds, but is expected to survive. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The sheriff's office said the child's father was able to hold the woman down until help arrived. He was also stabbed, but is expected to recover. He was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Deputies are investigating what led up to the stabbing.
