SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Hurricane Erin is holding steady as a dangerous major hurricane while it moves northwestward through the Atlantic. The storm, now a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 120 miles per hour, is centered about 685 miles southwest of Bermuda and 770 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Erin is slowing down as it tracks northwest at around seven miles per hour, but forecasters expect a turn to the north later today or tonight. On its current path, Erin should stay east of the Bahamas while moving between Bermuda and the U.S. East Coast in the middle of the week.
Warnings remain in place tonight. Tropical storm warnings are posted for the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeast Bahamas, where gusty winds and heavy rains continue. A
