LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — No visit to downtown Las Vegas is complete without a stop at the Fremont Street Experience. On Aug. 18, 1995, the massive neon canopy was still a work in progress.
The experience occupies five blocks of Fremont Street in what was once known as Glitter Gulch. Four of those blocks are encased in a 90-foot-high canopy that now includes digital screens in addition to plenty of lights and neon.
The project’s cost? Approximately $63 million. It was paid for with major contributions from downtown casino owners and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
